Trekking the Annapurna

The nepalese are master engineers and bridge builders. Only aerospace-grade grass, bamboo and rocks went into the making of this suspension bridge.

"What are YOU looking at???"
A bunch of mean-looking waterbuffalo intimidate me in Chomrong.

Day 4 - Abandoning the sanctuary. We reluctantly head back from Bamboo to Chomrong. The Annapurna sanctuary is a hike into the central ring of the Annapurnas - a grueling hike up which promise spectacular views. People coming from the opposite direction told us horror stories of avalanches and deep snow ahead, and reluctantly we turned back. Evidently hikers farther up in the mountains were being snowed into their lodges and the lodges ran out of food! A month and a half later, I would end up making it up to the Sanctuary.

These two donkeys used to do shows in Vegas.

Day 6 - Up, up into the snow. Through rhotodendron forests we head to Ghorepani. The nepali porters are well known for inappropriate footwear (they are poor), but i was a little shocked to see BARE FOOTPRINTS in the snow.

Here's a very rare photo of me looking like a rugged mountain man...

And meanwhile ED is the one chatting up all the DANISH CHICKS! These two attained the nickname "Danish Toilet Girls" because they had spent several months digging pit toilets in India as part of a volunteer program.
